`Wanted' was one of those action movies at the time of its release in theaters that people looked forward to. It looked promising and had a fine cast. The results were disappointing.
If it wasn't for Angelina Jolie, this movie would have gotten a 2 star review from my part. The whole plot was very silly and obviously the action sequences a little hard to believe. The movie does have its interested moments; Angelina walking out of a Jacuzzi butt naked and some action scenes that were very well made. But besides all that it was a let down, expecting a further deliberation of a film instead of a flick that at moments looked like a kid had genuinely written the script.
I rented `Wanted' on blu-ray when it came out and if you're into movies simply for the quality on your screen then I highly propose for you to get this one. Check out Angelina's scene walking out of the hot tub in slow motion. Extraordinary!
If you are one of those people that can tolerate even a little ridiculousness in your movies, this is still not for you. Between bullets knocking each other out of the air, flipping Dodge Vipers, and other assorted nonsense, this movie goes from action to impossible to ridiculous to silly to plain sad (the last three are unintended). There is escapism, and there is stupid: this movie is stupid.
This was the biggest disappointment and a total waste of money. Foul language, sex, weird story line, I found it to be disgusting. The one plus I could give it would be that the graphics are fascinating.
By the end of the movie I was wondering if this was based on one of Mark Millar's graphic novel ideas, and sure enough, it was in the credits. The movie has garnered a fair number of negative reviews, but this film about an ancient guild of super assassins does have its moments, although for its material it basically rips off just about every recent action thriller you can think of, from The Matrix to Star Wars. Still, how many truly original movies are there? A movie's success basically depends on how well it does with its already usually shopworn themes and ideas, anyway. But I digress; more specifically, the action sequences here reminded me of the spectacular gun-play in the movie, Desperado, starring Antonio Banderas and Joachim Almeida from the early 90s, if I remember right. The idea of a guild of ancient weaver-assassin's is also cool. The interior scenes of the mill with its great looms were also well done.
There's certainly a lot of action, and the train wreck scene on the bridge is one of the best action sequences I think I've ever seen in a movie. The cast is excellent between Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, although I was less familiar with the male lead, which is why I don't recall his name here, but anyway, he did a good job too.
Some of the ideas are wildly fantastic, but fun anyway, such as the special loom and the finely woven cloth with its knots that can be deciphered to name their next victim like a binary code. There's a diverse cast of characters, and the training scenes where they convert the protagonist from a meek accountant to a trained killer are entertaining, although again, pretty fanciful stuff, the most incredible thing being the idea that these super assassins have some psychokinetic powers that allow them to bend bullet trajectories around obstacles and corners. He gets trained in both gun and knife tactics. The knife fighting scenes reminded me of the scenes in the movie Dune between Gurney Halleck and Paul Atreides.
Anyway, not a great flick but not as bad as the negative reviews here say; maybe those are from the fans of the graphic novel who didn't like how it turned out, but I haven't read them yet to find out, but I will.
This movie is so bad, so utterly dreadful, I really don't know where to begin.
Instead, I'll put as much effort into this reveiw as those responsible for this abortion put into it (i.e., about two minutes of cognitive thought).
The script earns an F-, the acting just an F. Production F, editing F, special effects D-, entertainment value F. Overall, F.
Worst picture of all time, I walked out - if this is what passess for entertainment nowadays, I don't "want" any part of it.
