Nicole Jordan spins a delectable tale of wit and exquisite sensuality in this mesmerizing Regency romance, the captivating first in a dazzling new trilogy, The Courtship Wars.
Marcus Pierce, a strikingly handsome aristocrat with a wicked reputation, inherits guardianship of Arabella Loring and her two younger sisters–and immediately declares his intention to marry them off. But gorgeously defiant Arabella sparks frustration–and something deeply erotic–in Marcus. After matching both wits and swords with her, Marcus concludes that this beautiful and formidable foe must be his.
Having sworn off marriage and men, Arabella wishes to be left alone to run her finishing school for young ladies. To that end, she boldly accepts Marcus’s intimate challenge: If he can woo and win her within two weeks, she’ll take her place in his bed as his wife. However, if she can resist his considerable charms, the Loring sisters will be granted their independence. Thus an extraordinary game of seduction begins. . . .

Marcus and Arabella-SPOILERS
Favorite scene with Arabella-
Telling everyone off at the theater. That was a classic scene!
Favorite scene with Marcus-
His talk with Arabella's sisters.
Together-
Their fight after the theater fiasco.
What did you like about Arabella-
Her strength. Her tough cookie persona. Her love for her sisters and her Academy. Being the only one who hasn't turned her back on her courtesan friend. Willing to speak up for her mother. Her forgiveness toward her mother.
What didn't you like about Arabella-
Unwilling to marry. Not believing and trusting Marcus.
What did you like about Marcus-
His love for Arabella, although I questioned why sometimes. Although he was a powerful dude, he showed vulnerability, esp. when Arabella refused to marry him. Willing to help Arabella's students learn all the things they needed to learn. What he did for Arabella and her sisters-esp. returning their mother.
What didn't you like about Marcus-
The only time I didn't like Marcus was when he suggested that Arabella turn her back on her courtesan friend, and even give up her Academy.
Casting Marcus, I'd cast Julian McMahon.
Casting Arabella, I'd cast Gwyneth Paltrow.
Yawn, Boring so far...
I'm about a quarter of the way through and it's totally boring me. I feel absolutely no motivation to complete it. It's not bad or annoying, just boring, cliched, and dull. Maybe it will get better, but I don't reckon I'll stick it out to find out and neither of the sisters seems particularly interesting, so I don't think I'll give this series another chance. I've read Nicole Jordan before and liked her other books and was so excited to find this, but I suppose they can all be winners.
A very disappointing trilogy
I am very sorry I bought all three books at once. The first two are just terrible(except that she writes good love scenes)... but there is the barest shadow of a plot in each connected by love scenes! Now I read that Book 3 is even worse. Do yourself a favor and read some of her earlier books and skip these.
I can't resist a trilogy!
First, I admit I find it hard to resist a trilogy. Ongoing story lines where I can re-visit characters and see their progress beyond "happily ever after" are much more satisfying than the standard epilogue with the main characters enjoying the birth of their first child.
Perhaps the characters were not developed as well as might have been expected, but I found the story and people so enjoyable (and likable!) that I'm still giving it 5 stars. One of the aspects I most enjoy about Jordan's novels is the level of believable angst - not so much that I have such a hard time imagining a level of forgiveness which makes me lose interest in the characters, but enough to know that the path of love, lust & desire should not be a boring walk along a straight & narrow garden path!
Three beautiful, fiercely independent sisters....Three extremely eligible noblemen in need of wives. Let the games begin!
1st of the The Courtship Wars series - Marcus and Arbella's story. Marcus has inherited a new title and also guardianship of three young women. Arbella is the oldest of three sister - who has held together the family after their father died and mother ran off with her lover. Marcus makes a wager with Arbella - after two weeks if she does not want to marry him then he will set her and sister free of his guardainship. They are both very strong willed and when are not trying out play the game there is some great passion.
