About Dr. Martens
Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany.
By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Customer Reviews
Customer Service failed
The product ordered from Macy's was as promised, but the customer service failed. The original order did not inclued the promised return label (or even a return address), the only thing in this box with the order was the packing slip. This does not even have an order number on it.
I called customer service to return first set of shoes ordered, as they were to big. The 2nd order for exchange, also had nothing in the box for return, just a packing slip. It says in on Macy's return policy and when you call customer service, you can not only return an item within reason, you can use the enclosed shipping label, which was never provided.
It has been over a month & I have not received a credit for first order returned, and had to hand deliver the 2nd order, as these were still not the correct size, to the store to make sure I will receive a credit. I'm not even as upset about not receiving the shipping label as I 'am about not getting a credit for the 1st returned item, at least so far, and the length to time it has taken.
I will not order from Macy's again, ever.

Got these for my boyfriend
And he loves loves loves them. Of course, the $70 markdown would make up for any defect in these super cool Docs... I love Amazon.
Doc Marten Wingtip Review
Doc Martens are heavy duty and will last for many years. Anyone who's ever owned a pair knows they are quality shoes.
fustrated
This product was not true to its size. I wear a size 7 in women's and it was too big. If it came one size smaller, it could have worked. But its a well-made shoe as far as quality is concerned.
Cool Shoes!
Love the black and white wingtips. Very stylish! Sizing runs large. Usually wear an 8 in US sizes, but wear a 5 in UK size with this shoe. Adding an arch support orthotic inside really helps the fit. The soles are very springy feeling. Require some serious breaking-in though because the leather is quite stiff at first. Fantastic price through Amazon.com (half of what other on-line sources were asking!).
