Comfy, but a bit warm
I bought these ECCOs because I was looking for an athletic-looking, closed-toe, multi-terrain, waterproof sneaker that was vegan-friendly (non-leather). That's a tall order, and as you might imagine the pickings are pretty slim in this category, especially when you also want something that doesn't look goofy or cheaply made.
I've only worn these ECCOs around the house for an hour or so to try them out, but so far I like them. Only trouble is, my feet get hot in them. I think this may be a side-effect of the GORE-TEX XCR waterproof lining, because I had the same reaction to the Keen Ochocos waterproof shoes (which I wound up returning). I'm thinking inserts (possibly gel?) might assist in keeping my feet cool, as well as give me a little extra cushioning while also helping to fill out the shoe (my feet are somewhat narrow).
These ECCOs are more comfortable to me than the Keens were -- they look better too. As mentioned, my feet are slightly narrow, and I have a slightly higher than normal arch, but these ECCOs seem to fit pretty well right out of the box. They hug your foot more so than a regular sneaker, somewhat like a second skin. The material flexes with your foot as you walk without bunching up or pinching like stiffer sneaker material does. I would thus expect these ECCOs to take less time to break in.
I will say that they are billed as a size 46 EU, which is supposed to be equivalent to a 12-12.5 US, which seems a bit generous to me because they feel like a 12. So if a 12 US is normally too snug on you, then you might want to go up to a 47 EU.
Finally, understand that these are waterproof shoes, NOT water shoes. There is padded material underneath the mesh on the uppers, and no drainage ports. This means that in shallow water (puddles, etc.) your feet will stay dry, but if you traverse a creek in them, the shoes will not drain quickly like a true water shoe. That said, they are billed as waterproof so I assume that means getting them soaked will not harm them and that they will dry fairly rapidly as well. I have not tested their performance in this manner, however, so don't take my word for it!
This is a truly comfort
You don't feel you have these shoes put on. I use them all day long.
