Great Shoe- Re-soled my pair twice

GReat shoes for the price! I have gotten almost 3 years of use out of this pair of shoes. I am working on buying another pair.

Johnston & Murphy - Men's Melton (Black Brushed Veal)

This all leather shoe with its Optima comfort system and quality construction is the best value in a professional dress shoe that I am aware of. Very comfortable once broken in.

Great shoe for the money

This is a lot of shoe for the price: superbly crafted with no corner-cutting. The quality stitching is the mark of a good shoe, as is the full leather lining. Most importantly to me, the veal leather shines very, very well, and it doesn't crease much at all (be sure to use cedar shoe trees!). One of my dislikes about calfskin is that, though it's supple, it can crease badly. I have a thing for shoes that keep looking new.

They may take a while to break in, but once they do, you'll find that the Optima cushioning system absorbs a lot of shock. I think Allen-Edmonds break in faster, are more comfortable with their cork footbeds, and perhaps have longer-wearing soles, but they also cost nearly double. They also come only in calfskin, and I have that thing about creasing.

I wore a hole in my Melton's factory sole in, oh, three months? However, I can't be too disappointed, as I'm very hard on my shoes. When you get new soles, you may want to have your local cobbler put on leather soles with a rubber insert (where the ball of your foot strikes the ground). The insert will experience the most wear and is less expensive to replace than the entire sole. I wish J&M did this at the factory, or offered this in their refurbishment program.
