As the foot flexes, the Flexlink technology in the forefoot filler softens the compression. An Ortholite insole with open cell foam increases breathability and aids in shock absorption. A leather-hinged footbed flexes in tandem with the Flexlink forefoot to enhance flexibility and comfort. Finally, a unique compression chamber cushion system absorbs footfall shock from heel to forefoot.

By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Great Buy
I bought these shoes as a present to my boyfriend who works in a casual bank. He totally loved them and said that they are very comfortable, and, I must say, quite fashionableGreat shoe, great value.
I bought this shoe on sale and received it within a few days, even with Amazon's free shipping. The shoes seem to run about a half size smaller than my other Doc's but that worked out well since I'm more of a 9 1/2 than a size 10. There is a slight difference between these shoes made in China and my boots which were made in England but the finish looked fine and after a week they're almost broken in. I'm very happy with the shoes and getting them for less than $60 is a steal!Sizing has changed
I have bought Dr Martens in the past because I never had to worry about width -- wide was their thing! As far as I know you can't buy half-sizes in Dr Martens for this reason. These shoes are the same size as previous models I have bought, but after two weeks of 'wearing them in' I'm reluctantly realising that my little toes are never going to be happy in them. This is a tough hard shoe to break in, which is often true of a good quality shoe; but the lack of width makes that a disadvantage to broader-footed people like me!Great shoes, though the break-in period is annoying
This is the second pair for me, the first having finally died. These are great shoes for jeans or slacks. When you first get them on your feet they can be a bit rigid, but after a few weeks they wear in to a perfect fit.Great Shoes
